Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. I Peter 4:10
There are many ways to share God’s love by getting involved in ministry at United Methodist Church. Here are some of the opportunities available to you as you seek to serve:
Manna Ministries serves a hot meal to the Los Banos community every Sunday evening, 52 weeks per year. We would love to have your assistance with meal preparation, worship time, setup, and cleanup. If you are interested in joining the Manna Ministries team, please contact manna@umclb.org or the church office.
The United Methodist Women actively participate in the global missions of the church through creative, supportive fellowship and outreach to the community and the world. Whether through monthly meetings with guest speakers or through large fundraising drives like our annual St. Patrick’s Day Potato Luncheon or our summer and fall rummage sales, the UMW works hard to support missions throughout our community, our country, and our world. Past missions projects have included UMCOR disaster relief, the PET Project for post-trauma rehabilitation, women’s shelter organizations, various Christian children’s charities, and donations to local schools. The UMW meets monthly. Please come join us!
If you’d like to know how things work behind the scenes here at United Methodist Church, Administrative Council is one place to start. UMC’s Administrative Council meets monthly to discuss the ongoing administrative needs of the church and to make decisions on pertinent topics from finances and facilities to outreach. Administrative Council is also a good way to connect with other committees such as Finance or Trustees. Administrative Council is open to all members who are interested in the growth and ongoing administrative functioning of the church.
Our Christian Education Committee oversees our Sunday School, youth groups, and special children’s programs such as Vacation Bible School. Ministering to our youth is an important function of the church. If you are gifted with children, we would love to talk to you about serving a UMC. Please contact Angela Curtis at christianed@umclb.org or the church office.
One of our largest community outreach programs of the year is our annual Vacation Bible School program. Our VBS program shares God’s love with 180 community children each year, in addition to adopting an annual mission project to reach even more. Our program utilizes a multidenominational staff of up to 100 volunteers. The VBS Director Team welcomes the assistance of crew and station leaders, decorators, errand-runners, cooks and bakers, and administrative personnel. For more information, you may email vbs@umclb.org or contact the church office.
Our Praise Team leads the musical portion of worship on Sunday mornings, with a variety of traditional and contemporary music. Praise Team is open to adults of all ages, and rehearses weekly. We welcome both vocalists and instrumentalists. For more information, contact the music ministry at music@umclb.org or the church office.
UMC’s award-winning puppet ministry, No Strings Attached, serves the church and reaches out to others by sharing the truth of God’s love and the gift of salvation through puppetry. In addition to puppeteers and propr handlers, the puppet team can use those interested in script writing, choreography, and prop/costume/set making. They rehearse weekly on Wednesday evenings. For more information, contact Kimery Knight at puppets@umclb.org or the church office.
Our multimedia team manages the sound system, videography, and visual display for our worship services and other special events, and rehearses with the Praise Team weekly. Quality sound and visuals help facilitate a worshipful environment and are a critical part of our services. If you are interested in serving in this important ministry, contact Bill Tucker at multimedia@umclb.org or the church office.
Our men's group meets for breakfast and fellowship on the third Sunday of every month. Come join us in the Memorial Fellowship Hall at 8 a.m.
Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. Romans 12:4-8
